About this Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro review: I tested the Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro for four days. It was running firmware version 4.1.6_0309. The device was provided by Xiaomi India for this review.
Xiaomi’s upgraded Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro features an updated image sensor and updated hardware design. Although the set of functions is not radically different from the previous model, the new camera should be able to capture more details. This new sensor also allows the camera to capture full-color night images.
It is important to note that Xiaomi is not positioning the Mi Home Security Camera 2K Pro to replace existing models, such as a standard 1080p indoor camera or a 1080p 360-degree camera. Instead, the latest model sits at the top tier as an upgrade for those who want higher quality images.

The Xiaomi home security camera operates in a relatively isolated space with limited alternatives. Key options in India include realme’s 360-degree security camera, along with alternatives from TP-Link and CP-Plus. However, all of these cameras do a great job of recording in 1080p, which is what sets the Mi Home Security Camera 2K Pro apart. In Europe, Eufy, TP-Link and Amazon Ring offer competitive products.
The Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro will be available in India from September 15 at a price of Rs. 4,499 on Mi.com and also on Amazon. The camera costs €59.99 in Europe or around £50 in the UK and is available to purchase now.
Xiaomi Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro is as simple as home security cameras get. While the previous generation models were designed for use in rooms with softer curves, the Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro feels more like a traditional indoor security camera.
The entire structure is made of white polycarbonate with a 360-degree rotating motor mounted on the base. It’s pretty quiet and you can barely hear the camera moving once it’s installed. The vertical movement of the camera is controlled by a central module that provides a 110-degree field of view.

The camera supports memory cards up to 32 GB, and the card slot is located under the camera lens. You will need to lift up the camera module either with software or by manually pushing it into the slot on the card. It’s not the most convenient solution, but it provides a little security, considering that no one can remove the card without a camera.
Finally, on the back you’ll find a micro-USB port for powering the camera. Xiaomi threw in the box a power adapter, as well as a rather long micro-USB cable that allows you to power the camera at a sufficient distance from the outlet.
There’s not a lot of hardware here, but the easy setup should be a boon for first-timers.

The Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro comes standard with the Mi Home app, like all Xiaomi ecosystem products. Setup is easy and the app automatically detected the camera when I first launched it. After that, it was enough to scan the QR code under the camera to add it to the list of devices. The application automatically transmits the last saved Wi-Fi SSID and password to the camera.
Unlike many devices, I didn’t have to fiddle too much with the settings out of the box. Xiaomi has done a good job of making the camera as plug-and-play as possible.
Clicking on the corresponding camera in the application opens a full-screen view of the camera, as well as the corresponding controls. The on-screen joystick allows you to adjust the camera position. There is a hint of lag here, but that’s to be expected with most security cameras. You’ll also find controls for taking pictures, video, listening to the camera’s microphone, and streaming audio through the camera itself.
The app also has a setting that allows the Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro to track people in the frame. Unfortunately, the camera does not return to its original position when the person leaves the frame, which makes it redundant.

Another obvious disadvantage is the detection zones. The camera detects motion in its entire field of view, meaning that plants moving in the breeze trigger motion detection, as does a person walking by. Sure, the app makes it easy to change the default human triggers and motion detection when viewing security footage, but the lack of zones means there’s simply no way to block out a busy street or foliage for motion detection. Detection zones have been a common feature in security cameras for years, so it’s very disappointing that Xiaomi declined to add this feature here.
While most of these issues are annoying at best, I have serious issues with the Mi 360 Home Security Camera 2K Pro. The notification recharge time is three minutes. Also, the camera only records 60-second clips if you’ve set up motion-detection recording. Because the camera uses a combination of infrared sensors and camera sensors to trigger a message, most of the time the recording starts long before the subject is visible in the frame and you don’t get any messages or recordings. I own and use several Xiaomi security cameras and the only real way to do this is to set the camera to record continuously. Fortunately, the app can categorize posts by the people in them, so it’s easy enough to go back and view the footage.
The camera also offers seven-day cloud backup of clips, giving users peace of mind in case a criminal leaves your camera. Finally, a NAS device can also be used to store recordings. The installation process is a bit complicated and requires switching back to the SMB1 protocol on the NAS. Also, Xiaomi does not provide clear documentation regarding the process. Obviously, the company doesn’t expect too many users to choose this storage method, but there is an option for those who want to securely back up their personal recordings.
Elsewhere, custom recording times are easy to set and you can choose between full, day or night control. The app will also let you set your own schedule. You can easily set the start and end times for camera monitoring, but the lack of multiple schedules is a bit disappointing.
Xiaomi 360° Home Security Camera 2k (29048)
I like Xiaomi’s versatile approach to the app, as it makes it easy to access additional cameras and accessories. It also allows you to use some interesting automation features, such as starting the Mi robot vacuum cleaner or air purifier when the camera detects motion. Since the cameras don’t support third-party services, this feature is a handy replacement for IFTTT.
Xiaomi’s latest security camera has a 3-megapixel camera that can shoot at 20 frames per second. Streaming isn’t smooth, but it’s good enough for the price, and I found the image quality to be top notch. Advanced dual-band Wi-Fi that supports 5GHz networks is included, and streaming starts a second after you press a button in the app.
Thanks to its high sensitivity, the camera was reliable enough to send motion detection notifications on both the OnePlus 9 Pro and the iPhone 12. But you’ll have to disable and lock battery optimization on Android.
